Tooth Decay and Risk Assessment

Tooth decay is one of the most prevalent dental diseases. However, we must say that the pervasiveness was in old times. These days, the dentists have made some paramount signs of progress to deal with the cavity and decay. The dentistry research department has worked for so long to overcome dental caries. Based on extensive clinical and scientific research, now the department has some appropriate adaptation to cut the risk of decay.

Well, the ancient method of treating the decay was drilling and filling. With that technique, you cannot diminish the risk of further oral diseases. Therefore, the previous treatment cannot change the condition of a cavity or decay for a long time. After the therapy, you still have a high chance of infection and further dental caries. Thus, today's dentists use a more proactive strategy to overcome the oral cavity. And the good news is that the new technology works. With the new approach, in an individual, the probability of dental caries reduces with time.

Tooth Decay’s Infectious Process
In an ecosystem, as a living organism, we interact with other components of the environment. Well, the same is the case with our oral life. Our teeth have composed of an outer layer called enamel, the tooth has composed of calcium and phosphate, which are highly mineralized crystals. Moreover, the composition contains some significant fluids. Saliva is one of the most remarkable fluids in the mouth. Furthermore, it plays a vital role in oral hygiene and maintains a balance between the acids and bases you intake through the meals.

The measuring scale of acids is pH. The acid ranges from 1 – 14.A pH. When it is 1 pH, it is extremely acid, and the 14 is extremely basic. However, when it comes to the pH level of moth, it is 7, which is a neutral scale.

There is a specific acid which produces acidogenic bacteria when it attaches to the dental plaque, it forms a whitish sticky biofilm when the biofilms attached on the teeth, it creates cavity and decay. These bacteria can break down through some particular food. The impact of the acidogenic lessens down when you eat sugar and carbohydrates. Because of these specific meals, the acid works as a by-product. When your mouth has a pH 5.5, the minerals which are present on the below surface of enamel, start getting dissolved. We say this situation de-mineralization. During the process, the level of calcium and phosphate lessen down or leave the surface of the enamel, which causes tooth decay. Apart from the coating, the dentin is a gentle and sensitive layer of the teeth roots; therefore, before the enamel, the dentin starts decaying. Thus, the roots of an exposed tooth start de-mineralizing quickly than the covered tooth.

You and Risk Assessment
The reasons for dental caries are different in every individual. Some peeps have a bad health history, due to which they have to suffer from the decay. Well, the healthy mouth depends on the balancing of the pH level in your saliva and mouth. Some people do not have a severe medical history, still, they have dental issues. In that case, your dentist suggests some food that contains carbohydrates. Through a specific diet plant, you can maintain the balance of pH range.

Apart from the diet plan, your dentist will link your previous medical history with your oral health. He will check your blood pressure, the health of your blood vessels, cardiovascular condition, diabetes, and any other disease you have gone through in the past. The most important to identify is your heart performance. Your doctor will monitor your heart, to check the problems with your blood vessels. According to that, the dentist will suggest medicines and preventions.

Having a Sensitive tooth? – Find a Relief

There are very few people who don’t have to suffer tooth sensitivity in their life. The people who possess the whites and shiny teeth, sometimes bear with tooth sensitivity. Usually, we have to face sensitivity after having a cold glass of water or juice, ice cream, or tea. Therefore, there are some ways to get rid of the tingling feeling. However, we first know why we feel teeth sensation.

Why Sensitive Teeth?
There are several reasons for tooth sensitivity. Everyone’s sensation cause is different from another person. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), a person feels tingling in his teeth due to the gum disease, cavity, worn filling, worn enamel, or exposed tooth. According to the dentists, there is a substance called dentin, the dentin, lies under the enamel layer. Enamel and cementum protect the crown. The crown lies above the gum line and teeth roots. If the coating or cementum diminishes, then in dentin, tiny microscopic tubules get exposed. When the tubules expose, your drink and meals touch to the, and you feel a sensation in your tooth. This is an irritational tingling. The people who have borne the tooth sensitivity can better understand.

Common Causes of Tooth Sensitivity
According to the American Dental Association (ADA), peeps perform some ruthless daily activities that cause teeth sensation. We sometimes do not realize that we are applying harsh rules to our oral health. Usually, people do rigid tooth brushing daily. A very swift and harsh method of toothbrushing can harm your tubules. It can destruct the enamel and cementum. Many people do not change their toothbrushes for many months. Moreover, they use a hard bristle toothbrush. Always brush your teeth with gentle hands. Do not apply too much force and speed while brushing. When you apply too much potency on your brush, you are damaging the enamel layer, which causes tooth sensitivity. Apart from cleaning your teeth, your food plays a vital role in making your oral health muscular. Do not take alcohol or acidic drinks. Moreover, your smoking habit can also destruct the coating of your tubules. Even lemon and tomato sauce can damage the layers of your crown and cause tingling.

How Can you Treat the Sensitive Teeth?

  • If you are suffering from sensitivity, or you have a doubt feeling, then you should immediately consult your dentist. As the first and foremost part is to know the reason of sensation and tingling. Maybe it is only the food that causes the feeling. By avoiding such meals, you can get rid of the sensitive teeth.
  • Moreover, the toothpaste you are using is not suitable for your oral health. You need to change your toothpaste. Well, do not do it on your personal opinion. Make any changes in your oral routine after listening to your doctor. You should use a desensitizing toothpaste like Colgate sensitive pro relief.
  • You should learn brushing techniques. If you are doing something wrong with your teeth, then you should know a proper way of brushing and cleaning. If you are not using a soft bristle brush, change it right away. Moreover, brush your teeth gently so your enamel cannot get destructed. You need to protect your gums and coating while cleaning. Your enamel and cementum should not get recede.
  • If you have applied all the above-mentioned techniques, and still you are facing sensation in your teeth. Your dentist will apply the artificial crown on your enamel. Moreover, he will apply an additional bonding on the sensitive teeth. The bonding and crown will protect the nerves and halt your teeth from further decay.
  • Another treatment for the sensitivity would be a root canal. After the root canal treatment, you will feel better and your oral health gets improved.

Kid at the Dentist

Going to the dentist when I was young was always a challenge. My mother and I both hate going. We especially do not like the X-rays. Having the weird shaped plastic object in our mouth always makes both of us gag. I do not like having people’s fingers in my mouth either. I never have, and I don’t think I ever will. I do like the feeling of having clean teeth, and that is why I’m always brushing my teeth. I do my best to make sure I do not have to go to the dentist, although I do understand the importance of going.

My mother explained to me one day that going to the dentist is very important for my oral health. If I do not go on a regular basis, then I could develop some bad illnesses or have my teeth fall out. I could even get oral cancer. When she shared this with me, I was scared, and it made me go to the dentist. I did my own research and found out that people who neglect not only brushing but also the dentist will indeed suffer from a list of problems. One that scared me the most was falling out teeth. This happens when someone neglects their teeth. As plaque build up it eats away at the gums. As the gums get infected by the plaque. If left untreated the plaque will eat at the gums and infect them leading to gum disease. At a later stage of this disease teeth falling out is highly likley.

One day i had a schduled dentist appointment at a new office. It was nerve wracking because it was a new office. The other office we went to knew me and my dislike for the dentist. When we walked in it was amazing. There was a section of the waiting room that had some Xboxs and Playstations. I went straight for them as my mother went to the front dest to fill out the paperwork. I played a game called crash bandicute. You have to run through levels while defeating some enimies and collecting items to help you be stronger. I had a blast. My heart sank when they called me back and were ready for me. When they walked me to the operating room i got nervous but the surgeon who was going to work on my teeth had a pretty face. Befor she began working on my teeth I told her about how i do not like to be at the dentist. She then told me that there was nothing to worry about and she would take great caution and be very careful.

As she began working I noticed a difference from this place compared to the last office we attend. She was taking great care to not over work my teeth as she did not want to nick my gums. When it came to the xrays i asked if it would be okay if we did not do them and the plastic piece makes me want to throw up. She said she understood where I was coming from and we did not need to do my xrays this visit. As a kid I never liked the dentist. As im much older now I still do not enjoy the dentist but i manage it. I know how important it is to go to every dentist appointment when they are scheduled. I also make sure to brush my teeth twice a day, in the moring and in the evening. I do not think I will ever like the dentist but as mentioned before i know the importance of ging and will make sure to go to every appointment.
